CANDELARIA´S VIRGEN

To 3,870 msl, is located Puno, a city close to Titicaca Lake, the highest lake in the World.
There´s the scenary of the Catolic and folkloric carnival festivity of the Candelaria Virgen, during 16 days from February 2th to 18th in all the streets of the city you can find a lot of people who come from many different comnunities, mixed with the neighbours, there´s a joyful manifestation of artifitial lights, music and tipical dancers with different costumes.

The celebration begin early in the morning of February 02th with a mass in honor of the Virgen, in the afternoon arrive to the city many andean people by horse to present to the Virgen their honors and invocations.

The first sunday of February there´s the main competition of tipical dances, around 70 groups each one with hundred of dancers from different towns in tipical costumes.

After the competitiom all the groups get out for all the streets in Puno doing a big party in the city for more than a week.
